| ESTABLISHMENT OF THE INSTITUTE
Tertiary Institutions are unique communities committed to creating and transmitting knowledge. They depend on freedom – the individual’s freedom to explore ideas and to explore and further their own capabilities. These freedoms depend on the good will and responsible behaviour of all the members of the community, who must treat one another with tolerance and respect. They must allow one another to develop the full range of their capabilities and take full advantage of the institution's resources and these are principles to which IPS is committed.
The Institute of Professional Studies was founded in1965 as a private Institution and was taken over by government in 1979. It was subsequently, established as a tertiary institution with the mandate to provide professional education in the academic disciplines of Accountancy and Management by the Institute of Professional Studies Act, 1999 (Act 566).
The Institute is Ghana’s only public institution that offers both Undergraduate Degree Programmes and internationally recognized and acclaimed Professional Programmes in business.
The Institute educates, develops, nurtures, cultivates, inspires and transforms individuals to equip them with knowledge and skills to be effective in the competitive working business environment. Hence products become not just spectators but ardent players wherever they find themselves.
In its regulations, the Institute of Professional Studies sets out a code of conduct and actions which should be taken to safeguard its integrity and prevent disruptions.Thus, the rules of the Institute are designed to the Institute's image,vision, property and students.
In the event of a breach of code or rule, the students so involved may be suspended or expelled.A student may also be suspended if his or her continuous stay on campus in some regard is considered inimical.
The curricula entail a paradigm shift of an integrated approach to the training of business professionals
that blends academic knowledge with industrial training to realise the optimal potentials of students.
It is expected that this holistic approach will enable the Institutes products to assume leadership roles in business, in the field of education as curriculum developers and consultants
The Institute of Professional Studies Act, 1999 (Act 566) as a tertiary institution was mandated to:
• provide tertiary education in the academic disciplines of Accountancy and Management;
