PBPS 101 Introduction to Management
This course deals with basic concepts in management; management principles, functions of the manager. It develop an understanding of the theories underpinning the nature of the management function within the business organisation and in its interaction with the market, technological, legal, social and political environment
PBPS 102 Introduction to Accounting
Definition and meaning of book-keeping and accounts: accounting equation, double entry system of cash and credit transactions, capital and revenue receipts and expenditure, accounting concepts and convention, journals, cashbooks, petty cash books, imprest system, daybooks Ledgers, trial balance.
PBPS 103 Introduction to Computer Skills
This course is intended to make students literate about the nature of computers, what it can do and how it does it. The laboratory component is essential.
The nature of a computer and its logical structure. Characteristics and types of computers. Brief historical review of the evolution of computers, and the technological advances. Operating systems, directories and files. Algorithms, flowcharts and programmes for solving problems in numerical and non-numerical situations. Programming languages and software packages. Word-processing, spreadsheet and database application.
PBPS 104 Introduction to Marketing
This course focuses on marketing functions as applicable in business enterprise; the evolution; relevance; the mix and current issues in marketing are the main focus.
PBPS 105 French Language I
Proficiency in the use of the French language in business communication. The course will focus on developing skills in speaking, writing, reading and listening.
PBPS 106 Introduction to Business Mathematics
Basic techniques and concepts useful in the management of organizations, including: algebra of functions, simple interest, compound interest, effective interest rates, calculation of sinking fund deposits, present value, capital recovery, perpetuities and capitalized costs.
The course includes topics such as: logarithmic and exponential functions, matrices and vectors, introduction to probability, introduction to difference equations.
PBPS 107 Communication Skills I
This is a remedial course in English structure and usage intended to highlight some of the basic problems in structure and usage found in students’ spoken and written language, which hinder effective communication. It includes identification of sentence patterns and functions; identification of word, phrase, clause and sentences and delves into the noun phrase and its function in sentence structure.
PBPS 108 French Language II
This is a c continuation of PBPS 105. The course deals with relatively more advanced aspects of language skills. It includes sentence construction, question phrases and practical tests in oral French.
PBPS 109 Business Communication I
This is an introduction to communication, which deals with the basic concept of communication, communicating in everyday life, interpreting communication and communicating globally. It also will look at developing language such as exploring language elements, mastering Nouns and Pronouns and expanding language skills. It will finally aim at preparing students to handle the verbal and written communication task they will need to perform. The writing component will include the preparation of reports of various kinds, letters, memos, minutes, etc.
PBPS 111 Principles of Economics (Micro)
This course is proposed to introduce students to the basic concepts of microeconomics such as demand, supply, price determination and elasticity. It also focuses on the basic theories of the consumer, the firm, costs, revenue and market structures (perfect competition and monopoly). Emphasis will be placed on the application of the concepts and principles to analyze and take optimal decisions for personal, corporate (business) and national development.
PBPS 112 Communication Skills II
The course deals with relatively more advanced issues in structure and usage such as the structure of the Verb Phrase, types of complementation, auxiliaries and question phrases. |
